Experiences

By using blogs in the Special Education classroom, it allows students to express themselves in a new way.  With exceptional children, we need to keep in mind they all have voices and they need to be heard.  It allows parents to be able to see the work that the children do.  Maybe children with SLD would be able to accomplish tasks on a blog.  Allowing them to do simple tasks, some may need assistance but none the less, it is a good experience for them.

I would help my students log in and explore blogging.  This would be more of an opportunity for something new than a graded assignment.  I would be there for support when they needed me.  It also gives them key computers skills needed when they move on to upper grades.

  1. I like how you are going to help them learn how to blog. The simple tasks are the way to get students to learn. That is great that you want all the exceptional students to learn everything that other classes teach. They do have a voice and need to be heard. I like your ideas!

  2. This is a great activity for students to explore something new. Especially for kids with autism, this could be the way that they could speak. Great ideas. :)

  3. I love how you bring up special learners. Technology can greatly help them. I have a cousin with extreme autism and she can navigate the internet like no other.

  4. I'm glad you want to start at an early age to teach these kids to learn key computer skills so they can get better as they go through their school career.

  5. I know there is a lot of technology available out there for children with special needs, but I think few teachers know how to incorporate that technology into their teaching plans. You have some great ideas, and you'll be able to really help those kids!

  6. I think that using blogs in special education classes is a great idea. Students that have certain disabilities can have a hard time expressing themselves. I think that blogging could help them do this.

  7. Not only is it good to acknowledge all of the online tools that are provided that benefit children with special needs, but it is also important that you are willing to spend the time with the children to help them learn to use it. I think that it is really great that you will let the children know not to be ashamed if they cannot do something but to just come to you for help because you will always be there without judgment to assist them.

  8. I absolutely agree that all children, including exceptional children, should have an opportunity to voice their opinions and share knowledge with one another. Using a blog would be great for a special education class since some students might not be able to communicate through speaking, but could communicate using technological resources like a blog.

  10. With kids learning to work with computers at an early age it would be a good idea so by the time they have to use it , they wouldnalready understand it.

  11. I like how you view your students' blogging as more of a new experience for them instead of just a grade. It will definitely be something that they can enjoy that way while also learning something completely different but necessary these days.

  15. I like that you said "thier voices need to be heard". That is so true and sometimes overlooked with special needs children. Wright on!
